About the Artist

Sea of Light Studios is the business of J R Watkins, a multidisciplinary artist, writer and teacher, working at the intersection between Arts and Health. With a background of studies in Fine Arts, Neuroscience, Community Services and Education, J R creates art with the intention of encouraging positive emotions and thoughts for the viewer. They are particularly passionate about creating work which supports feelings of connection and care for the self, others and earth. J R Watkins (pronouns they/them) is a queer, non-binary and neurodivergent artist.

Art for Health and Care Industry Settings

J R Watkins and Sea of Light Studios have exhibited works in Health and Care settings including Gosford Hospital, Therapy consultation rooms and NDIS Providers. J R creates with a specific passion for providing meaningful and high quality art for Health and Care Industry settings, knowing the value that art can have on people's wellbeing.

Art as a Gift for Loved Ones and Homes

J R Watkins' art has been commissioned for wedding gifts, celebrating the birth of a new child, commemorative portraits, anniversary gifts and for enlivening homes and living spaces. Sea of Light Studios is dedicated to sourcing and using high quality, environmentally sustainable and socially responsible materials, including:

  • Frames and art boards using recycled or FSC Certified woods

  • Archival grade EcoCanvas made of 100% post consumer recycled plastic

  • Products made locally by people paid a fair wage

Sea of Light Studios is based on Darkinjung Country (Central Coast, NSW, Australia) where sovereignty was never ceded. Every year 20% of net profits from Sea of Light Studios are distributed to First Nations owned organisations and charities.
